NEW YEAR'S SCHEDULE: We will be closed January 1 and will reopen Monday, January 5.
When we experience symptoms — whether it’s pain, tension, fatigue, headaches, digestive issues, or low energy — the first question we usually ask is, “How do I get rid of this?” That reaction makes sense. Most of us have been taught to treat symptoms as the problem itself. If something hurts, we suppress the pain. If something isn’t working properly, we try to manage it.
While this approach may provide temporary relief, it often overlooks a deeper issue. Symptoms are rarely the root cause. They matter — but more often than not, they’re signals pointing to something else happening beneath the surface. At Authority Chiropractic, we approach symptoms differently. Instead of asking, “What symptoms do you have?” we ask, “Why is your body expressing this symptom in the first place?”
Your body is constantly communicating with you through your nervous system. The brain sends messages down the spinal cord and out through nerves to every organ, muscle, and tissue. In return, the body sends information back to the brain about what’s happening internally and externally.
Symptoms are part of this communication loop. Pain, tightness, dizziness, poor sleep, digestive issues, and fatigue aren’t random malfunctions — they’re the body’s way of saying that something is interfering with normal function. Just as a smoke alarm doesn’t cause a fire, symptoms don’t cause the problem; they alert you to it.
Many people find themselves wondering why treatments haven’t worked or why issues keep returning over time. When care focuses only on eliminating symptoms, the underlying cause may never be addressed. This often leads to patterns like temporary relief, symptoms that shift locations, or new complaints appearing once old ones fade.
The reason is simple: the body always prioritizes survival over comfort. If the nervous system is under continued stress, it will adapt however it needs to — even if that adaptation shows up as symptoms. When the system remains stuck in a state of protection or “fight or flight,” true healing becomes difficult.
One of the most misunderstood contributors to chronic symptoms is stress. Stress isn’t just emotional. It can be physical, such as injuries, repetitive strain, or poor posture; chemical, like toxins or poor nutrition; or emotional, including chronic worry, trauma, or overwhelm. These stressors accumulate over time and are processed by the nervous system.
The nervous system is the master control system of the body. It regulates movement, organ function, immune response, hormone balance, stress regulation, and healing. When it’s functioning optimally, the body can adapt and recover efficiently. When it’s overwhelmed or imbalanced, the body’s ability to self-regulate decreases.
This is also why imaging or blood work can come back “normal” even when you don’t feel well. Dysfunction doesn’t always mean damage. Neurological tension and poor communication between the brain and body don’t always appear on tests, yet they can significantly impact how you feel and function.
At Authority Chiropractic, our care focuses on improving function, not just addressing structure. Our gentle, specific adjustments are designed to reduce stress on the nervous system, improve communication between the brain and body, and support better regulation. As the nervous system becomes more balanced, the body often no longer needs to express symptoms as strongly — or at all.
Healing isn’t about silencing signals. Symptoms are adaptive responses that often change gradually as the nervous system adapts. This is why our care emphasizes consistency and progress rather than quick fixes.
One of the most important mindset shifts you can make is seeing symptoms not as the enemy, but as information — your body’s way of asking for support. When care focuses on understanding why symptoms are happening, rather than simply trying to stop them, the body is given the opportunity to heal more completely.
If you’ve been stuck managing symptoms without meaningful change, it may be time to look deeper. At Authority Chiropractic, we don’t chase symptoms. We support your nervous system so your body can do what it was designed to do: adapt, heal, and thrive. We’d love to partner with you on your road to healing.
