Megan's Story: Finding Hope Through Neurologically-Based Chiropractic Care

Megan, a U.S. veteran and Authority Chiropractic patient

Megan Tamez is a U.S. veteran. Before she walked into our office in 2018, she was managing chronic hip pain, debilitating migraines, and tremors so severe she couldn't write or hold a glass of water without spilling it. She'd already had hip surgery. She was taking 1,500 to 2,000 milligrams of ibuprofen a day. Botox injections for the migraines. Blood pressure and seizure medications for the tremors — medications that, in her words, only made her feel worse.

This is her story, in her words, and ours.

The reality before chiropractic.

Megan came to us through the VA system, where pain management had stopped working. She had no other options on the table — surgery had already happened, the medications were stacking up, and nothing was actually getting better. Here's how she described it:

"As a veteran, I have dealt with a variety of issues for many years. Hip pain, chronic migraines, and tremors so severe that I was unable to write or hold a glass of water without spilling. My hip pain was unbearable, and my migraines became debilitating; I had to miss many days of work because I could hardly function, much less drive. After physical therapy failed to provide relief, I underwent extensive surgery for my hip. The VA is trying to combat drug addiction, so as a veteran I was given no pain medication, save for ibuprofen. I was taking 1500–2000mg of ibuprofen per day. I was getting Botox injections for my migraines, and my tremors were treated with blood pressure and seizure medications which only made me feel worse."

This is where many of our practice members are when they find us — they've tried what they were told to try, and they're still in pain. Megan had never been to a chiropractor before. She came in willing to try anything.

The first visit. And what changed.

What Megan didn't expect was an approach that didn't require her to explain everything all over again. She'd already told her story dozens of times to dozens of providers. Here's what she said about that first experience:

"I had never been to a chiropractor before and was willing to try anything. The office is open and relaxing, and the staff is very friendly; they welcome me by name! The Doctors listen, and what's more is I don't have to explain anything. He talks to my body and fixes it — AMAZING!"

What she's describing — the part about not having to explain — is Torque Release Technique (TRT). TRT uses a series of gentle pressure checks along the spine, combined with the Achilles deep tendon reflex, to pinpoint exactly where adjustments are needed. The body shows us where the problem is. We don't guess — we measure, and adjust at the precise spot.

That's the technical side. The patient experience side is what Megan describes: gentle, specific, and consistent across visits regardless of which doctor is adjusting you.

One month in. What she noticed.

Healing isn't linear, and we don't promise quick fixes. But Megan's nervous system started shifting fast. Here's what she reported after about four weeks of care:

"After a month, the tremors had all but stopped, my migraines are almost non-existent, and I can sleep through the night because I am not in pain. I take half the amount of ibuprofen that I had before — maybe once a week. Everyone should try chiropractic — ESPECIALLY if they're on medications — to be able to come off of them and heal from the inside out. I have already recommended many veterans to Authority Chiropractic, and I'm working on my husband too!"

A note on medication. Megan was able to reduce her ibuprofen and other medications working with her medical team — not by stopping anything cold turkey. Chiropractic care doesn't replace your doctor, and you should never adjust prescribed medications without talking to the prescriber first. What we focus on is making the nervous system function better. When that happens, the body often needs less external support to do what it was designed to do.

Why Megan's story matters.

Megan's experience is powerful — but it's not unusual. We see versions of her story regularly in our practice. The specific symptoms differ. The veteran context differs. But the pattern is the same: someone who has tried the standard playbook, who has been told there are no other options, and who finds that addressing the nervous system itself opens up possibilities the standard playbook missed.

She's still a practice member today. She comes in weekly. She understands that a healthy, well-functioning nervous system isn't something you check off and forget — it's something you maintain. And that's the difference between symptom management and root-cause care.

If your story sounds familiar.

If you're stuck in a pattern of medications, procedures, and temporary relief — and you've started to wonder whether there's something else — that's the conversation we want to have. We don't promise miracles. We promise an honest evaluation of what's going on with your nervous system, and a clear plan based on what we find.

Call our office at (210) 343-5209, or book an appointment online. We'll start where Megan started — with a real conversation about what you're dealing with, and a path forward that addresses the cause, not just the symptoms.
